More Pre-paid in AsiaPac

The latest news is of PT Mobile-8, Indonesia, with 2.02 million subscribers. 91% of Mobile-8's revenue come from prepaid subscribers. This speaks a lot about the general psyche of the populace in this region, primarily the fact that they want to have more control on their expenses. Subscribing to postpaid services don't give this facility of monitoring their balance and spendings.

Prepaid services translate directly to real-time rating and charging mechanisms, and when combined with attractive schemes and offers, what's needed is a sophisticated (and complicated) system with the ability of offering these services and at the same time assuring that revenue is not lost, either to the subscriber or to the service provider. Advent of mobile broadband, HSDPA/HSUPA and content-oriented 3G services demand an increased number of integration points with the 3rd party content providers, meaning further sharing of revenue.

It's quite evident that, down the line, streamlined applications, flexible not only in supporting varying services, but also adaptable to changing network infrastructures, will emerge as market leaders.
